Kilgore residents concerned about crime and safety

KILGORE/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) -  If the March 4th shooting near Kilgore College wasn't enough to worry Kilgore residents, Tuesday's robbery which brought out search dogs and helicopters certainly did. Police say Tuesday evening, a man stole a bag with  a *large sum of money from a woman in this medical plaza parking lot before fleeing the scene. Police say she was on her way to make a bank deposit.
"It makes you feel kind of antsy and kind of leery."
Betty west works in Kilgore and lives alone. She says knowing someone was robbed in the parking-lot outside her doctor's office makes her nervous.
"They could lurk around any place."
"There are targets anywhere. There are targets at Wal-Mart, Brookshires, at any location, even at your own home that's a target.
Brenda Bolten works in the medical plaza where the robbery took place.
Since Tuesday, she's warned her employees to be careful.
"Make sure you are aware of what's around you and who's around you."
And west says if things happen to get physical -- she's prepared to defend herself.
"Use your key and go for their eyes or whatever, even if you get hurt."
While police don't think this robber poses an immediate threat to anyone else, they warn people walking to their cars to pay attention to who is around them, and call police if they feel threatened.
In the meantime Kilgore Police are stepping up patrols and becoming more visible as a deterrent to criminals.
The robber is described as about 5'10 inches tall and was last seen wearing jeans with a dark colored hoodie.Police say the investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information is urged to contact Kilgore police.
