FROM THE TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH:

Holocaust memorial event set April 7
Staff Reports

In commemoration of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Memorial Day), an interfaith Holocaust remembrance program, "From Ashes ... to Life" will be presented at 2 p.m. April 7 at Congregation Ahavath Achim, 3501 S. Donnybrook Ave. in Tyler.

"The program is designed to remember and honor victims and survivors of the Holocaust -- the systematic, bureaucratic, state sponsored persecution and murder of approximately 6 million Jews by the Nazi regime and its collaborators from 1933 to 1945," according to the written release.

Guest speakers include Mayor Barbara Bass, the Rev. Doug Anderson, pastor of Rose Heights Church; Mrs. Ginger Brandt and the Rev. Coffee-Prose of First Christian Church; the Rev. Hank Lanik, chancellor at the Catholic Diocese of Tyler; Rabbi Alan Learner of Congregation Ahavath Achim; and Dr. Ronald Beals.

Mayor Bass will issue a proclamation declaring April 7 through 14 as the "Days of Remembrance" in memory of the victims, survivors and rescuers of the Holocaust.

Biographical sketches of victims and survivors from the fields of theology, music, art, literature, science and medicine will be presented by the above-mentioned area ministers and lay leaders.

Dr. Michael Eidenmuller, author and professor at The University of Texas at Tyler, also will be a presenter.

The commemoration program is free and open to the public.
