One dead, one injured in Palestine wreck

Posted: Updated:

PRESS RELEASE FROM PALESTINE POLICE DEPARTMENT:

On March 28, 2013 officers from the Palestine Police Department responded to a traffic accident in the 4200 block of West Oak St. Officers arrived on the scene and found that a 1995 Chevy Blazer was traveling west bound on West Oak St.

A second vehicle, a 1996 Ford truck was traveling east bound on West Oak St. The Ford truck driving in the outside lane for east bound traffic. The Ford truck was pulling a small trailer with a motorcycle on the trailer.

The initial investigation has indicated that the Chevy Blazer made a sudden lane change and moved into the path of the Ford truck. This caused that left front of the Chevy to impact the left front of the Ford truck.

The driver of the Chevy Blazer was 22 year old Cody Lee Morgan of Palestine. Morgan died at the scene due to injuries received in the accident. Morgan was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace James Todd. Judge Todd has ordered that an autopsy be performed for Morgan.

The Ford truck was driven by 54 year old Nathan Rush of Elgin, Texas. Mr. Rush was transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center and then by air to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler. The passenger in the Ford truck was transported, by air, to Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler. At last check it was reported that Mr. and Mrs. Rush were in serious but stable condition.

The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. Trooper L. Hubert with the Texas Department of Public Safety is assisting with the investigation.

There is no further information at this time.
