New Convention-Center Hotel

New Convention-Center Hotel

Posted: Updated:

David Bryant recently moved to Longview from Houston.

He likes the city.

"It was fun at first because it was smaller, I get here, and I found a lot of cool places. But after 2 months you've been everywhere." - David Bryant, New to Longview

He says it would be nice to have more things to go to with his children.

For him and Longview, that may soon be happening.

Thursday Longview City Council approved to further explore the possibility of building a new convention center and hotel, to hold more events, meetings, and attractions for Longview.

The city will be studying location, demand of the city, and building partners to determine if building the center is worthwhile.

Longview City Spokesman Shawn Hara says the city is looking to share the cost with a private company.

"The city is looking at owning the convention center side, and the private company would operate the hotel. that is what we are looking at and finding how much would this cost, how would this work, and what would the agreements be" - Shawn Hara, City of Longview

"Hara says the location being looked at would take advantage of the I20 corridor, and be right here on the the intersection of Eastman road and Estes Parkway" -Kevin Boyce

"It's important because it draws people into the city, and in for events. It is a good resource for Longview" - Hara

For David Bryant and his kids, he is just glad that there will be more options, so he doesn't have to head out of town.

"We usually have to travel outside of Longview, or we will sit at home and watch TV or something" - David Bryant
