Health Alert: Asthma, allergies on the rise

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - People who suffer from asthma are likely to have allergies too. A new study followed more than 25-hundred adults with asthma. Depending on their ages, between 65 and 75 percent turned out to have at least one allergy. Researchers say both asthma and allergies are on the rise and could be related to climate change, hygiene, and increased awareness.

(CBS) - The clips that hold dental bibs may also be holding bacteria. Researchers tested the clips at a dental clinic after they had been disinfected and found as many as 70-percent were carrying some type of bacteria. The germs can be transferred from a previous patient, or from the hands of the dental workers. Researchers suggest dental offices either thoroughly sterilize the bib holders or start using a disposable version.

(CBS) - A new study shows a link between coronary heart disease and weight gain. Researchers from the University of Oxford followed over a million women over the course of a decade. They found as a woman's body mass index increased even by a small increment, so did her risk of coronary heart disease. In fact, weight gain was as much of a factor as age.
