Prosecutors to seek death penalty against James Holmes

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - Prosecutors in Colorado say they are seeking the death penalty for James Holmes, the man accused of killing 12 and injuring 70 in a movie theater attack last August. Holmes showed no emotion when the District Attorney announced that death would be the only justice in the case. Holmes' attorney's offered to plead guilty and serve life in prison in exchange for avoiding the death penalty, but prosecutors rejected the offer.

(CBS) - Connecticut lawmakers have reached a deal to implement what they're calling the toughest gun laws in the country. Among the new restrictions are a ban on large-capacity ammunition clips as well as new background checks for private gun sales. The agreement comes on the same day major league baseball held moments of silence at stadiums across the country to remember the victims of the Newtown shooting.
