1 person dead after morning accident near Kilgore

KILGORE (KYTX) - A pedestrian accident left one man dead Tuesday morning in Rusk County.

The Department of Public Safety tells CBS 19 that the accident happened on the business road of Highway 259 near Kilgore at 10:20 a.m.

According to Trooper Jean Dark, 39-year-old Frank Hunter, of Blossom, Texas, parked on the side of the road to pick up a box of inner tubes that had fallen from the bed of his truck when he was struck by a Chrysler SUV driven southbound by 73-year-old George Smith.

Hunter died at the scene of the accident and his body was taken to Radar Funeral Home in Kilgore.

No charges have been filed against Smith.
