UPDATE: Longview Fire Marshal Johnny Zackary says no one was injured in this afternoon's apartment fire.

A Forest Park Middle School student who lives in the apartment building that caught fire told CBS-19 that she arrived home from school to find smoke. She used her cell phone to call her mother, and her mother asked the child to walk through the apartment and open the back patio doors, she said.

Zackary says that, when anyone encounters smoke or a fire, they should not enter but instead call 911.

The fire was caused when North Huntington Hills Apartments maintenance crews were making renovations to an apartment building's facade when it caught fire, Zackary said.

LONGVIEW (KYTX) - Longview Fire Department are at the scene of an apartment fire.

The fire was called in around 4 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of Eastman Road.

It is not known the extent of the damage at Huntington Hills Apartments.

No injuries have been reported.
