Smith Co. faces assault arrest, deputies treated after scuffle

Posted: Updated:

A Chapel Hill man will be arrested for assault, family violence and resisting arrest after being released from the hospital following what investigators say was a drunken fight with his wife during which intervening deputies were injured.

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Department, deputies were called to the 12000 block of F.M. 3226 around 3:30 Sunday morning by a woman who said her husband cut her with a knife.

When they got there, deputies said they noticed blood outside the house and a glass door that had been shattered. When they went inside they found a man who was covered in blood and seemed to be drunk.

Deputies said the man did not cooperate with their orders to lay down on the ground, so they subdued him physically, at which time one injured his knee and two were exposed to blood.

They later found the man's wife hiding outside. She was injured but refused medical treatment.

The man is at ETMC in Tyler being treated for his injuries. He'll be arrested when he's released.

The deputies were also treated at ETMC.

The man's name has not been released.
