Update: Longview police ID suspect in weekend shooting

UPDATE: According to Longview police spokeswoman Debra Stiles, the man arrested in Sunday's shooting was Larry Davis, 49, of Longview. He is being held on $20,000 bond, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Gregg County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace court records show that Davis admitted to police that he had a firearm and shot the victim Sunday aftneroon on Davis Street.

Police have not released the victim's name.

Davis has been sentenced to prison at least twice since 2001 on drug and weapons convictions, according to online Gregg County Jail records.

Davis is scheduled to appear in Gregg County's Court-at-Law No. 1 at 8 a.m. Friday for arraignment on an October assault charge.

From Longview Police:

On April 7, 2013 at 5:17 p.m., Officers responded to a shooting just occurred in the 200 Block of Davis Street.

When Officers arrived they learned that the black male victim had been shot with a handgun once in the head.

The suspect fled the scene prior to officer's arrival.

A short time later police located the suspect in the 2300 Block of 12th Street.

He was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

The victim was alert and transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center.
