Health Alert: Amiodarone may increase cancer risk

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - A commonly used drug to treat an irregular heartbeat may increase the risk of developing cancer. That's the finding of a new study published in the Journal, Cancer. Doctors say large amounts of "Amiodarone" can accumulate in soft tissue because it degrades very slowly. Researchers say the risk of cancer may be higher for men and for patients taking high doses.

(CBS) - New research shows children serve themselves larger portions when they use larger plates. The study, published in the Journal Pediatrics, found that children ate at least half of the food on their plates -- consuming more calories than necessary. The first graders who were part of the study also tended to serve themselves more fruit, but not vegetables.

(CBS) - Another study in the Journal Pediatrics finds children and teens who spend more time watching television, versus using other electronic media, tend to have a higher body mass index. The authors say TV ads for unhealthy foods may be a bad influence and many kids who eat while watching TV are distracted and don't realize when they are full. The researchers analyzed the media habits of about 90 teenagers.
