City of Tyler Sister Cities social set for April 17

Sister Cities International:

TYLER (KYTX) - A possible new Sister City for Tyler will be discussed at a social on Wednesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. at the Tyler Junior College Center for Earth and Space Science Education. Citizens who are interested in joining Sister Cities are invited to this event along with current members. A light dinner will be served and the board will discuss Liberia, Costa Rica, as a possible Sister City match for Tyler, according to Pat Johns, president.

The video of the Tyler Junior College Apache Belles and Apache Band performing for Yachiyo,  Japan, Tyler's current Sister City will be shown Dr. Kim Russell, TJC vice-president for advancement and external affairs, said that approximately 1,500 Yachiyo residents attended the performance. A group of 45 people from Yachiyo came to Tyler in October 2010 to celebrate 20 years since the twinning ceremony between Yachiyo and Tyler.  Tyler has four college graduate women teaching as ALT's in Yachiyo. 

Sister Cities is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between United States and international communities.  More than 2,000 cities, states and counties have partnered in 136 countries around the world.  This last year, Tyler hosted  Sister City  groups of international visitors from Yachiyo and from San Miguel, Mexico.
