Yellow Card Program

Yellow Card Program

Posted: Updated:

From break-ins to noise problems, Longview Police spend a lot of time responding to calls at apartment complexes after hours and on weekends.
So their communication with management needed a more efficient approach.
They came up with this -- the Yellow Card Program.
The idea is whenever police respond to a call at a complex  when management isn't there, they can write down information about the call the responded to and leave it for management.
"Police say one of the perks of the cards is if management isn't here, it can simply be dropped into a mail drop box for them to see the next morning" - Kevin Boyce
That way  they can keep an eye on accused troublemakers.
Carlos Thompson who lives at parkway apartments is glad do police are doing something.
"It basically tells people who are thinking about committing a crime to stay away" - Carlos Thompson
Police say normally an officer would come once a month and give managers a list of calls from their complex, so they may not know of a crime for weeks after.
"It's a more immediate way to get them information" - Longview Police, Jeff Hall
Police say 33% of all calls to an apartment complex are for repeat offenders and now managers  will know who those people are.
Jessica Tucker with Hunter's Crossing Apartments in Longview, says it should definitely help.
"Not only are we able to take care of the situation than and there... but it will also keep our community safer." - Tucker
"You've got kids around, so if you have someone around that doesn't need to be. YOu need to take care of that" - Carlos Thompson
