East Texas Grandmother finds inspiration to lose 60 lbs.

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - Have you tried every fad diet and exercise craze out there, only to end up right where you started?  An East Texas grandmother found herself in that pattern for most of her life, but now she's found Fit City Success.

It was a tiny inspiration that changed Jo Ann Loftin's life.  Jo Ann decided when her grandson was born she was going to do whatever it takes to be able to run and play with him.

Jo Ann Loftin is a busy mom and grandmother, who also works full time, but she hasn't always made time for herself.  "Until 2 years ago, I didn't do anything. I went to work and took care of my family and that was it," says Jo Ann Loftin.

Back then Jo Ann was 60 pounds heavier.  "I've done it all. I have done everything. I have done every diet, every fad diet and then gone home and sit on the couch and watch the TV," says Jo Ann.

That all changed 2 years ago. Her daughter Tracy asked her to join Anytime Fitness after the birth of her child.  "We come everyday together.  My oldest daughter has joined and my daughter-in-law comes," says Jo Ann.  "My whole family is involved in this gym and it has changed all of our lives."

When Jo Ann started at Anytime Fitness 2 years ago, she couldn't do a single push up. Now she can do 15.  Jo Ann sets aside 5 days for the gym, two classes a day.  "We do spin, Iron Pump, SWAT and then we do Ironman, which is our crossfit class 5 days a week," says Jo Ann.

She says her trainer, Angela, pushes her, but has ultimately helped her lose 4 dress sizes.

"It just changes your life.  When you get home in the morning, you are sore, but you don't hurt.  Your back doesn't hurt, your knees don't ache. You are strong," says Jo Ann.

She is strong enough to keep up with her grandson.  "He is the most amazing little man and we can play, run and dig in the back yard, swing on the swing set and go to the park and not be exhausted when you leave," says Jo Ann.

Now Jo Ann is the grandmother, she promised she would be.  She says moms in the gym ask her all the time about feeling guilty for leaving their little ones for the gym.  Jo Ann says taking care of yourself is important and in the end it makes you a better mom.
