NACOGDOCHES (KYTX) - Additional charges involving a second Nacogdoches High School student have been filed against Nacogdoches Independent School District substitute teacher Jamar Ballard.

Ballard first was arrested Thursday and charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student after a student told an NHS staff member that Ballard had acted inappropriately toward her.

A second student has now said that Ballard acted inappropriately toward her. In this alleged second incident, Ballard has been charged with sexual assault of a child and improper relationship between an educator and student.

"We are saddened and outraged at the thought of an adult having improper relations with students," said NISD Superintendent Fred Hayes. "We will see this investigation through to the end."

NISD Police Chief Doug Ploch said that any student or teacher with further information can contact the NISD Police Department.

Ballard was terminated as an NISD employee, arrested in Lufkin and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail on Thursday.

NACOGDOCHES (KYTX) — Nacogdoches Independent School District substitute teacher Jamar Ballard, 29, was arrested Thursday and charged with improper relationship between an educator and a student as specified in Texas Penal Code section 21.12.

On Tuesday, a Nacogdoches High School student told an NHS staff member that Ballard had acted inappropriately.

"Any improper relationship between an educator and student is deplorable," said NISD Superintendent Dr. Fred Hayes. "NISD fully supports this investigation. We have zero-tolerance for improper behavior between an educator and a student. Any adult who would break the trust of a child and pursue such a relationship should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law."

NISD Police Chief Doug Ploch said the investigation into the incident continues, and additional charges could be filed. Any student or teacher with information on this matter should contact the NISD Police Department.

"We take all allegations seriously and investigate them thoroughly, " Ploch said.  "Our concern is for the safety of our students and staff."

According to the state penal code, an improper relationship between an educator and student is a second-degree felony.

Ballard has been dismissed from employment with NISD.
