UPDATE: Released by Longview Fire Department

Sunday evening fire displaces 9 and results in two patients transported to local hospital for care.

At or around 22:50 fire crews responded to building #13 of the Belaire Manor Apartments for an apartment fire. First arriving fire crews found a large amount of fire coming from the windows of the upstairs apartment #84. According to neighbors, the occupant of this unit exited from the upstairs window which caused injury and resulted in the patient being transported to a local hospital. A second person was transported for a medical condition that could have been caused/ worsened as a result of the fire.

The fire was brought under control very quickly saving the adjoining units of the building. Water damage was kept to a minimum due to the salvage operations of the fire crews. Two of the adjacent units received some smoke damage.

The cause of the fire has been narrowed down to the area of the window air conditioning unit which was on in the living room.

The Red Cross responded to the scene and assisted the 9 residents who were displaced as a result of the fire and the electricity being disconnected.

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A woman was sent to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after jumping from the second floor of a burning apartment late Sunday, according to Longview Fire Department.

Longview Fire Department Battalion Chief Roger Groves said firefighters responded to a fire at shortly before 11 Sunday night at Belaire Manor Apartments, in the 1300 block of East Young Street. One apartment suffered fire damage, and two apartments suffered smoke and water damage, but a total of nine occupants living in an eight-unit apartment building were evacuated from their homes, as firefighters cut off electricity while putting out and later investigating the fire, Groves said.

"Our reports on arrival was there was one person that was injured. (Unit) 510 reported that she jumped from the second-floor window to the ground. Medic crews treated her and transported her to the local hospital," Graves said. "They reported her no visible injuries, but they transported for observation and evacuation."

The fire is under investigation, and no cause has been determined, Groves said. The woman's identity has not been released.
