Annual Four F BBQ to benefit homeless animals in ETexas

Posted: Updated:
EAST TEXAS (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - The Seventh annual Four F Foundation BBQ set for May 4 gives animal lovers throughout East Texas the chance to visit a Lindale ranch, dine on mouth-watering barbeque, enjoy live country music — and, in the process, help out a deserving collection of cat and canine castaways.

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. at the foundation's headquarters, 18793 County Road 481 in Lindale, according to a news release from the ranch.

Proceeds will help the nonprofit foundation operate its no-kill animal shelter and care for homeless dogs and cats.

"Until they got here, a lot of our tail-wagging residents didn't know the meaning of love and affection. They had been abused, neglected and abandoned for most of their lives," Ben Fletcher, foundation president, said in the release. "Making sure our four-legged friends get the humane care and medical treatment they deserve is our primary objective, and fundraisers like this benefit BBQ help greatly to achieve that goal."

The event's menu includes brisket, chicken, smoked pork and elk, with an assortment of salads, vegetables and desserts.

Guests will be entertained by Ken Spradlin and his band, Spradlin, which is a past winner of the Jim Reeves Sound-Alike Contest in Carthage.

A silent and live auction with merchandise and gift certificates donated by area retailers and restaurants also will be held. Items include a one-hour plane ride for three people from Tyler's Pounds Field Regional Airport, a baseball signed by Nolan Ryan and a day's outing at a private ranch offering skeet shooting and opportunities to photograph an abundance of wild birds and exotic animals.

After eating, guests can visit shelter animals and children can roast marshmallows and make s'mores at a large, adult-supervised campfire.

Since its creation about six years ago, the foundation has rescued more than 500 dogs and cats, the release states.

Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $3.50 for children under eight. At the door, tickets will be $15 for adults and $5 for children.
