Man convicted for August shooting in South Longview

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A Longview man was convicted Wednesday of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for an Aug. 1 shooting in South Longview.

Gregg County 188th District Judge David Brabham on Wednesday found 26-year-old Anthony Fernando Strange guilty of shooting at his then-girlfriend with a high-powered rifle when she tried to leave a residence in the 200 block of Birdsong Street, according to police and the Gregg County District Clerk's Office. Police said some of the shots hit nearby homes and the victim's vehicle as she was leaving.

A May 7 sentencing date has been set for Strange, who has remained in the Gregg County Jail on $55,000 bond since the Aug. 1 shooting. He faces up to twenty years in prison, and because the judge found that a deadly weapon was used, Strange must serve at least half of his sentence before he is eligible for parole.
