DPS: Hallsville man leads trooper on chase through west Longview

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - A 31-year-old Hallsville man with a history of Gregg County arrests is back in jail on drug and evading arrest charges after a short chase through western Longview Wednesday afternoon.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety, a DPS trooper was patrolling Loop 281 near Cotton Street when he saw a white passenger car fail to stop properly at a traffic light. The trooper tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver - later identified as Joshua Timmons - ignored the emergency lights and turned west onto Harrison Road. According to the trooper, the vehicle turned south onto Willow Springs Road before stopping at a dead end.

Timmons and a passenger, Derrick Hawkins, were removed from the vehicle and placed in custody, the trooper said in an arrest warrant obtained from the Gregg County Precinct 1 JP Office. A search of the vehicle found several controlled substances that were inventories and sent to a DPS crime lab in Tyler for analysis, the trooper said.

Timmons is in the Gregg County Jail on $39,500 bond, facing second-degree and state jail felony drug possession charges, misdemeanor marijuana possession, evading arrest with a vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia - along with several Longview traffic warrants, according to online records. Timmons has been arrested 17 times since 2008 on charges ranging from robbery to burglary, cruelty to animals and forgery. In 2011, a Gregg County judge sentenced Timmons to 16 months in state jail for a drug possession conviction.

Hawkins was not arrested in Wednesday's incident. He was released from the Gregg County Jail on April 5 after spending nearly a month in jail on contempt of court on a child support issue, according to online records.
