Posted: Updated:

A sound that alerts you to hurry up, and get out. But according to the Longview Fire Department, it has just become an annoyance.
Holly Abbott works here in Longview, she says she has been involved in many false alarms. And she has become used to it.
"You just don't get stressed out about it, and just sit there until somebody tells you" - Holly Abbott
The Longview Fire Department says it has seen over 840 false alarm calls in 2012, where 25% came from the same establishments.
A number that Fire Marshall Johnny Zachary says is too high.
"The problem is, that if the alarm keeps going off at the same place, people will start to not want to leave because there has never been a fire, which is very scary." - Johnny Zachary
"Zachary says when the alarms go off, don't take the chance... and leave." - Kevin Boyce
"The alarms are designed to go off to tell you to get out, and that there is a problem." - Zachary
Johnny Zachary says that with each false alarm, It takes at least 3 fire engines to respond -- which can be a problem if something major happens.
For people like holly Abbott, she says that she doesn't take any chances.
"Because you could be in a real fire,  and just not realize something is going on." - Kevin Boyce
