Wanted Kilgore man apprehended by KPD's STAR Unit

Posted: Updated:

KILGORE/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Kilgore Police Department is crediting its Specialized Task and Response (STAR) Unit in the arrest of a wanted Kilgore man.

According to police, 26-year-old Anthony Jerome Johnson was accused April 12 of felony assault of a family member, but when police arrived, he ran from the area before he could be apprehended.

One week later, the STAR Unit located and arrested Johnson at a home in the 100 block of Browne Street. Police say he was booked into the Kilgore City Jail and is charged with assault/family violence with previous convictions for the same charge, and two traffic warrants.

The STAR Unit is composed of select officers from the Kilgore Police Department who have shown a desire to participate in a proactive enforcement environment. The Unit uses unconventional methods and inventive tactics, as necessary, in order to assist the department's Patrol Unit with law enforcement objectives that prove too demanding for a normal patrol shift.

"With the new STAR Unit (Specialized Task and Response Unit) in place those that commit crimes have no place to go in Kilgore," police said in a media release.
