Nacogdoches ISD students bring un-loaded weapon to school

Posted: Updated:

NACOGDOCHES(KYTX)- Two Nacogdoches ISD Thomas J.  Rusk Academy of Fine Arts students were caught in possession of an unloaded .22 semi-automatic piston Tuesday.

The first student to have the weapon, an 11-year old male, brought the gun to school Monday for what police are calling "like more of a show and tell." The other student, a 12-year-old, took the gun home and planned to bring the weapon back to school today.

NISD Chief of police Doug Plouch said, the issue was brought to district police attention from a parent tip. After a search, the weapon was found with the 12-year-old this morning on the school bus.

Both of the students are in the custody of the juvenile probation department and will likely be charged with possession of a weapon.

Ploch said in the past 20 years the district has only had six to seven instances where students were discovered to have a gun on campus.

The investigation is still ongoing.
