Health Alert: 3D mammograms more effective

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - A new study finds three-dimensional mammograms are more effective for cancer detection and reducing false positives when used with traditional two-dimensional screening. Researchers in Australia tested more than 7-thousand women and found about a third of cancers were not spotted when just 2d screens were used. They only came to light after additional 3-d screening.

(CBS) - There is new hope for autistic children who have never learned to speak. Scientists at the University of Birmingham found motor behaviors such as banging toys and copying gestures play a key role in learning language. They are now directing new studies that focus on motor skills that may eventually help non-verbal autistic children. Researchers also discovered sign language training produced minimal results.

(CBS) - New research finds drinking one extra sugary soft drink per day can increase your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 22 percent. Doctors say the findings indicate the effects of sweetened beverages on diabetes goes beyond the possibility of gaining weight. The study also found drinking fruit juice did not significantly increase the risk of diabetes.
