Tyler woman finds Fit City Success through Genghis Grill Health Kwest

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - A Tyler woman gets selected for a weight loss competition at Genghis Grill at first, it was about winning $10,000 dollars, but something changed along the way.

"I really needed to lose weight. About half way through the competition I met a lot of good friends at the gym.  It became more about my health and not the contest," says Crystal Bass.

Crystal Bass started the Genghis Grill Health Kwest competition about 8 weeks ago.  As part of the competition, she had to eat Genghis Grill for 60 days and complete video and social media challenges about her weight loss journey.

A big factor in her weight loss was Zumba workouts, twice a day.  6 days a week at Woodcreek Athletic Club in Tyler.  It helped Crystal lose 31 pounds and helped ease the pain of her arthritis.

"The biggest thing is I have found a support system at the gym and that's very important.  I just want to be healthy and fit into regular sized clothes. I want to be able to shop at a store that's not for plus-sized people," says Crystal Bass.

Crystal didn't win the competition, but she did place 28th out of more than 100 contestants.

Crystal says she plans to keep losing weight by joining weight loss challenges at the gym or anywhere else they're offered.
