Push for TISD bond at Dixie Elementary

TYLER (KYTX) -

Tyler Proud is continuing its push to get the Tyler Independent School District's $160.5 million bond proposal passed during the May election.

On Tuesday volunteers were waiting outside Dixie Elementary to talk with parents who were picking up students. Tyler proud says the proposed re-model for Dixie would give students more space and offer more security.

Many of the teachers at Dixie are supporting the plan.

"Right now we have 9 to 11 portables," 5th grade teacher Suzi Savage said. "It'll make it a lot more safe, a lot more clean, and space. Like the cafeteria, we are just sardined in there."

"Teaching art some of my classes have thirty kids in them," teacher Stephanie King said. "In such a small space I don't even have room for the supplies or the artwork they create."

Grassroots America is publicly refusing to support the district's bond program--saying too much money is being invested without the promise of results.

The election is May 11th.
