22nd Annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast

Posted: Updated:

TYLER (KYTX) - Thursday is not only "National Day of Prayer," it's also the "22nd Annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast" at Harvey Convention Center in Tyler.

"I know that our community really looks at what's going on in the world."

Debbie Isham is prayer breakfast coordinator.

"One of the things that makes Tyler so special is we do have a community- a faith-based community. And, they see the power of prayer and just that hedge of protection." she says.

Protection made stronger by people in uniform every day. Danny Shepard asks that we pray for our military men and women.

"My father was a veteran, my brother, my nephew. I mean, my heart goes out to those guys."

And his prayers go up today.

"I really feel like we should be praying for our country."

Prayer breakfast volunteer David McCullough says recent tragedies like the bombings in Boston have created a need for prayers now, more than ever.

"People are invading our soil and we have to pray for our country on that aspect, but then West, which was an explosion."

The tragedy in West- just hours away from the Rose City.

"Pray for those who were involved not only in the explosion, but the first responders, and just show Christ's love there in that." says McCullough.

"Tyler does care." says Isham.

Whether on a local or global scale, many East Texans use their faith to offer hope and healing today and throughout the year.
