CORINTH (CBSDFW.COM)- A Corinth pastor has been arrested for indecent behavior involving a child.

Church of Corinth's Lead Pastor Jeff Williams is charged with attempted sexual performance of a child. He bonded out of the Denton County Jail late Wednesday.

Corinth Police are not releasing any details other than the alleged victim is a female under the age of 18.

Williams and his wife have a home on church property where our camera was not allowed.

Police say the pastor attempted to persuade the alleged victim to undress.

Several of the church's 800 members told CBS 11 that they don't believe the accuser and are supporting the pastor.

"I just heard about it I jumped up and came up here," says Tina Martin, church member. "He's just a great human being and his wife is just as beautiful I mean they have changed me so much I owe them.

In a statement released early Thursday morning, the church said it is looking into the matter.

"We have no knowledge of nor any reason to suspect any inappropriate behavior," said spokesman David Fink. "We intend to and will fully investigate the allegations, and we will fully cooperate with the authorities. Our prayers go out to this family of our church."

Other church leaders told CBS 11 News off camera that they believe the allegations are false and support their pastor.

Corinth Police believe there is the possibility of more accusers and investigators are encouraging them to come forward.

Anyone with additional information about the investigation is asked to call Corinth Police at 940-498-2017.
