"Fill the Boot" this weekend in Tyler

Posted: Updated:
TYLER (KYTX) -

This weekend Tyler firefighters are holding their annual "fill the boot" campaign to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

People living with Muscular Dystrophy joined fire fighters and city leaders to kick off the fundraiser at Tyler's #10 fire station Friday morning. They're hoping to beat the more than $20,000 dollars raised last year.

Two East Texans living with the disease said the money goes a long way.

"I mean I'm still here. I'm 25 years old," Sory Rivera said. "When I got diagnosed at the age of three, they told me I would only live until the age of seven. And so now I'm 25 and I'm still here and I'm still trucking."

"I would like to get rid of this disease. I really would," Mitchell Smith said. "Because it's just really annoying sometimes."

Firefighters will be collecting money Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10am to 6pm.

It's happening at the Wal-Mart on Troup Highway, the Wal-Mart on Highway 64, and at Tyler's Lowes.
