Arp ISD investigating improper language claims against teacher

Posted: Updated:

ARP (KYTX) - The Arp Independent School District is investigating claims made against an Arp Elementary school third grade teacher.

District Superintendent Tomey Lowery said the district is looking into several complaints made against the teacher. An email sent to CBS 19 from an Arp parent said the teacher being investigated allegedly told her students they looked like a bunch of drunks and that when walking in line she wanted them so straight that if a sniper shot the first kid in the head they all should fall.

The claims that the teacher said that to a group of elementary school students have many parents and community member upset.

In the city of Arp, news travels fast. Arp resident Punk Jones is surprised she hadn't heard before our report that the investigation into the school was ongoing.

"Right now I have a six year old great grandson in the Arp school," said Jones.

Jones has a history with Arp ISD. She graduated from Arp, so did her children, her grandchildren and one day her grandchildren will.

From her experience she said the district as a whole is great. However, finding out that a third grade teacher allegedly told her students what some parents are calling unnecessary comments and direction is a problem.

"You know just the tone of her voice could maybe scare them."

In a phone conversation, Lowery told CBS 19's Katiera Winfrey since the issue has come to light six to seven parents have already met with him. He couldn't go into specifics because the issue is of a personal nature. That means he can't release the name of the teacher or the students involved.

Meantime, as the investigation continues, Jones said it the claims turnout to be true there are better ways to direct a child.

"I would say hey you guys lets get in single file very softly to make them understand that that's the way they should do it."
