Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau:

TYLER (KYTX) – In conjunction with National Travel and Tourism Week, Gov. Rick Perry has designated May 4-12 as Texas Travel and Tourism Week. Tyler joins a statewide celebration of travel and tourism this week as well.

"Texas Travel and Tourism Week gives cities and towns across the Lone Star State the opportunity to highlight the important economic impact and benefits of travel and tourism in their communities," Texas Tourism Director Brad Smyth said. "Texas Travel and Tourism Week is also the perfect opportunity to remind Texans to explore the many exciting attractions our state has to offer."

The Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) encourages East Texans to take advantage of the local attractions and natural surroundings that make Tyler and East Texas a much visited tourist destination.  According to a report by Dean Runyans Associates (a statewide report released every year breaking down the overall economic impact of tourism to the local economy,) direct spending on travel in Tyler and Smith County in 2011 was an estimated $326.6 million. This total is up by over $29 million from 2010.  The same report estimates that over 3,000 local jobs are supported by the travel industry.  More information about statewide activities and the impact of travel in Texas can be found at www.travel.state.tx.us

The Tyler CVB urges East Texans to take time to be tourists in their own communities this summer.   Information is available about Tyler attractions as well as other nearby destinations at the Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center located at 315 N Broadway, Tyler.  The Center is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

The mission of the Tyler Convention and Visitors Bureau is to professionally motivate, support and welcome tourists, meetings, conventions and sporting events to Tyler for the purpose of enhancing the city's economy.  Information about the Tyler CVB and recreational opportunities in Tyler can be found online at www.visittyler.com or you can call and request information, (903) 592-1661.
