GILMER (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) -- A state appeals court has upheld the murder conviction and 60-year prison sentence assessed a Big Sandy man in Upshur County last year in connection with the 2011 shooting of his sister.

The 6th Court of Appeals in Texarkana upheld the conviction of Glenn Wade Myers Jr., now 56, on Friday, Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd announced in a news release Monday.

A jury in 115th District Court in Gilmer convicted Myers and sentenced him last June 19 for the July 2, 2011, shooting of Cindy Espinosa, who was wounded in the face by a shortgun outside her rural home.

"The motive for the shooting was that the victim had asked her brother for additional funds to help repair a water well on the property" where both resided in separate homes, Byrd said.

Then-Upshur County Assistant District Attorney Edward Choy led prosecution of the case, while Gilmer attorney Tim Cone represented Myers at trial and filed the appeal.
