Ammonium nitrate caused West explosion

Posted: Updated:

WEST (CBS) - Authorities are getting closer to figuring out exactly what ignited last month's deadly explosion at a fertilizer facility in the town of West.

Investigators say a store of ammonium nitrate caused the blast, but fire investigators still don't know the ignition source this morning. The spot where the volatile compound was stored is now a 90- foot wide crater.

Fourteen people were killed in the April 17th explosion. Several buildings, including two schools and a nursing home, were also damaged.
