UPDATE: VAN (TYLER MORNING TELEGRAPH) - A Van man has been arrested and charged with murder in the stabbing death that left a man dead in the middle of East Ohio Street in Van Monday morning.

Van Police Chief Tony Richardson said 49-year-old Delano Garcia was taken into custody shortly before midnight Monday and taken to the Van Zandt County Jail, where he is being held on a $1 million bond.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. Monday, a 911 call was received by the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office that a man, later identified as Jesse Lee Hudspeth of Wills Point, was lying in the middle of the street with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Police immediately locked down the Van High School due to the proximity of the incident. But later the lockdown was canceled after it was learned the victim had been stabbed once in the chest and that the person believed to be responsible was being questioned.

Richardson told the Tyler Morning Telegraph this morning that his agency, the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Rangers are continuing their investigation into the case.
"As for a motive as to why this happened, we don't have that right now. But we are still investigating the case," he said.

Richardson said his department has been assisted by the Van Zandt County Sheriff Lindsey Ray and his department, the Van Zandt County District Attorney's Office, Precinct 4 Constable (Van Zandt County), the Texas Rangers, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, and the Smith County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Unit.
