East Texas business awards 40 seniors, underclassmen with scholarships

Posted: Updated:

EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - The Peltier Auto Family will announce the winning students of their 3rd Annual Peltier Teacher Scholarship today at 10 a.m.

Forty seniors and underclassmen will be receiving scholarships of $1000.00 to their chosen college or university.

Back in 2010 Robert Peltier saw an opportunity to love and serve East Texas' exceptional educators when budgets were tight inside area schools and out. His idea was simple and profound: shine a light on area educators who are an inspiration to both their classroom and their own children, and help them further their own children's education. This will be the third year of the scholarship program and so far more than 500 teachers with children in college have applied and 120 students have received aid for their education.

This year Peltier is pleased to increase the amount that each student will receive, from $500 to $1000. These funds can be applied to any fees, tuition, room and board, or books as the student sees fit.
Students were chosen based on the merit of their essay portion of the application, with special consideration given to their charitable work done outside of school. The students had only 500 words to express how their mother or father had affected their lives in a lasting way.

Katie Hall, Peltier's 2013 Scholarship Judge, of Tyler Junior College gave each winner the title of "Outstanding" in merit for their essays. After sorting through over 200 applications, her choices truly are outstanding.

Peltier will be giving surprise visits to the schools of winning teachers on the morning of May 9, bringing with them balloons, cookie cakes and a lot of smiles and praise.
