TYLER (KYTX) - Big changes are on the way now that voters approved a $160.5 million school bond for Tyler ISD.

63 percent of voters said it was time for new schools and better technology within the district.

All you see are trees in a lot off of Old Jacksonville Highway behind FRESH. But in two years, a 150,000 square foot middle school will be there with 1,000 students.

"I think it just gives us more options as parents," said Meagan Lissner.

Meagan Lissner is a mother of three who works across from the site. Her oldest child will attend the new middle school in a few years.

"It's going to be close and it will be in walking distance to the shop, so my kids will be close and not all the way across town," said Lissner.

Mentioning across town, Moore Middle School will receive an entire new school.

It will house 1,000 students in a new school building with the latest security and technology.

It will be built on it's current site.

Next, we have Boulter Middle School.  It was built in 1959 on Garden Valley road in North Tyler.

The new Boulter will be constructed on the same site and will be the same size as the other two new middle schools.

"I was definitely a big proponent of the bond passing," said Claire Cozad.

Claire Cozad is a former Tyler elementary teacher, who moved from an older school to a new school, when voters approved the bond in 2008.

"I saw a huge difference in the respect level from students. The way they respected the facility, the way they respected their classmates, and they way they respected their teachers," said Cozad.

She hopes the same will happen for students at Dixie and Rice elementary when they're schools are remodeled.

Each school will house 800 students in an 88,000 square foot space.

Before construction starts on the middle and elementary campuses, construction will start on the much talked about career and technical education school.

The school will be located at the corner of Earl Campbell Parkway and Bennett Avenue.

400 students from both John Tyler and Robert E. Lee will attend the school to take part in programs that are not offered in your traditional school.

All the new construction is scheduled to be finished by fall of 2015.

Schools leaders will choose an architect and designer for the schools within the next few months.
