We live in the South, so some of us may have a Southern accent, but would you consider saying "goodbye" to "howdy, y'all"?
The Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee was going to offer a speech class for its workers next month to do just that, until it got canceled.

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - According to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and the City of Longview, stores in the city's north and west sides could begin selling beer and wine in less than two months.

The TABC says that Longview's City Council must first ratify the results of Saturday's Prop 1 election - in which 63 percent of voters approved beer and wine sales in Longview's previously dry areas. City Public Information Officer Shawn Hara says that is expected to take place during Thursday's regular council meeting at City Hall.

After the votes are ratified, and if the city has its ordinances dealing with alcohol sales in line with state standards, the City of Longview can begin accepting applications from stores for beer and wine sales. Those applications must be given to the City Secretary's Office, which must forward the request to the city's Development Services Division for building inspection. Applications must be filed with the offices of the City Secretary, Gregg County Clerk and the Texas Comptroller, according to the TABC.

The process takes about 40 days from filing the application to having beer and wine in stores, the TABC says. It is likely that Longview has its ordinances in order with state standards because other parts of the city are already wet, the TABC says.
