Trial date set for defendants in September child sex assault case

UPDATE: A trial date has not been set for a third suspect indicted in December for aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Peggy Weinberg, 27, of Athens, was arrested Nov. 20 in Henderson County for aggravated sexual assault of a child in connection to charges against Jesse Dale Smith and Cassandra Stone. On Nov. 28, she was transferred to the Gregg County Jail, where remains today on $250,000 bond.



 

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Gregg County courts have set a May 20 trial date for Jesse Dale Smith and Cassandra Stone, accused of aggravated sexual assault of a child.

Stone, 32, and Smith, 33, face up to 99 years or life in prison if convicted. They are both in the Gregg County Jail on at least $160,000 bond each.

They were arrested in September and indicted by a Gregg County grand jury in December. Stone is also charged with indecency with a child/sexual contact.
