Greyhound bus station moves locations

Posted: Updated:

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) -  Running just a little behind time, R. Davis is finally waiting for his greyhound bus at the right location.

"When I got there, there's no Greyhound."

Davis is visiting Longview from Talula, Louisiana. He caught the greyhound into town several days ago but doors were locked and lights were out at the old location when it was time for his departure.

"People didn't know about the transition because everywhere I asked they told me the old place."

AFTER 50 PLUS YEARS, LONGVIEW'S GREYHOUND STATION HAS MOVED FROM ITS SITE ON MAGRILL STREET TO A NEW LOCATION ON PACIFIC STREET IN THE SAME CENTER AS LONGVIEW TRANSIT AND AMTRAK.

"Puts transportation in the City of Longview in a central location as far as ground transportation."

Greyhound manager Ricky Skinner says passengers will now be able to get off the train and hop on the bus or vice versa like William Mcdaniel did.

"I walked from the train across the street and booked my reservations here."

Skinner says that city officials have had their eye on Longview's multi-modal transportation center for quite a few years now. And now that grants have come in from state and federal transportation departments, it appears as though the vision has finally come into fruition.

"The city plans to restructure the entrance coming into the facility, they're going to take the front of this building here and there will be parking right at the street side and there will also be raised median which will have additional parking."

Modern conveniences like wi-if will be added and construction already in the works.

 "I like it, it's close to transportation...transportation...transportation."

With Amtrack, city buses and now Greyhound life, as far as transportation is concerned, will much easier for those coming to visit, living in or passing through Longview.

The city says along with the many plans it has in place for the multi-modal transportational hub, it also plans to add a taxi service.
