Thunderstorm damage, power outage reported in eastern Harrison County

Posted: Updated:

UPDATE: Harrison County Sheriff's Office Administrative Deputy Jay Webb also said:

"We have been notified by the National Weather Service that there was an "indication" of a tornado that has caused of the damage in Waskom, Elysian Fields, and Greenwood, Louisiana. There has been NO confirmation of this, yet, and it will only be after the storm has passed that they can assess the
area.

"Our agency, Texas DPS, Texas Department of Transportation, and Waskom PD are assessing the damage and the needs in this area. There are confirmed SWEPCO power lines down in the Waskom area and they are responding to the scene. Until the National Weather Service or NOAA confirms the presence of a tornado, we are addressing this event as a severe storm with damaging high
winds."

KYTX CBS 19 contacted the National Weather Service in Shreveport, which says that the storm the damages Waskom, Elysian Fields and Greenwood this afternoon is still causing problems in Northwest Louisiana, so the weather service has yet to dispatch experts to Harrison County this afternoon to determine if a tornado has touched down in that area.

SWEPCO is reporting 1500 customers without power in Harrison County and 279 customers without power in Panola County.
