Shooting in Smith Co. leaves 1 man dead, 1 in custody

UPDATE: The identity of the man who shot and killed another man on Patton Lane has been identified. Earlier this morning, 23 year old Alex Wesley Jones was charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Smith County Jail on a $750,000 bond. The name of the deceased man is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.


SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - One man is dead following an argument with another man in Smith County Tuesday morning.

Smith County Public Information Officer John Moore tells KYTX CBS 19 that the shooting happened just after 10 a.m. in the 100 block of Patten Lane off of Highway 64 West.

Precinct 1 Constables, Smith County Deputies and EMS responded to the scene.

A man was taken into custody for questioning.

The names of the individuals involved haven't been released at this time, but no one else was injured in the shooting.
