Posted: Updated:

Released by Smith County Judge Joel Baker

TYLER/SMITH COUNTY (KYTX) - Severe weather is a possibility for all of East Texas today including Smith County. According to the National Weather Service, there is the possibility of hail, damaging winds and heavy rain, and a slight possibility of tornadoes for Smith County.

As statutory Emergency Management Director for Smith County, Judge Joel Baker advises all citizens to closely monitor weather conditions as they can change rapidly.  Heed any watches and warnings.

"I strongly encourage citizens to ensure that they have an emergency plan for themselves and their families," said Judge Baker.

There are a number of free tools in the event of severe weather.  One such tool is the Red Cross Tornado App which is available for iPhone and Android devices at:  http://www.redcross.org/mobile-apps/tornado-app.  Also, emergency precautions can be found at the website of the Texas Severe Storms Association, www.tessa.org/.

The Smith County Office of Emergency Management is closely monitoring weather conditions and is prepared for a weather emergency, if necessary.

"Our concern is always for the safety and well-being of the citizens of Smith County."
