Lufkin woman dies from lightning strike; community devastated

LUFKIN (KYTX) - East Texas firefighters are warning people to be careful after lightning struck an East Texas mother of 3, killing her.  32-year-old Meshell Foxworth died Tuesday night.

Foxworth works at the I-HOP on Medford Drive in Lufkin. She left the building at about 10:30 Tuesday night to grab something from her car. While she was in the parking lot during the storm, lightning hit her umbrella and went through her.

Firefighters say umbrellas are conductors because of the metal rods, and if it's storming the way it was Tuesday, the best thing to do is stay inside.

Foxworth's coworkers tell CBS 19 they just can't believe she's gone. They say she was a happy enthusiastic person who always had a good attitude and was fun to be around.

Her coworkers say she leaves behind 3 children.
