Thunderstorms, showers expected Memorial Day weekend

Posted: Updated:
EAST TEXAS (KYTX) - A cluster of thunderstorms that developed across central Oklahoma this morning split with the southern portion heading southeast across the Red River into the counties north of I-20. The storms weakened but were still producing rain at mid-afternoon. Thunderstorms were developing in the Sam Rayburn/Toledo Bend areas at mid-afternoon, and we will include a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms in our area through tonight.

A Tornado Watch was issued for the Texas Panhandle and South Plains effective until 10:00 p.m., and a Tornado Warning was issued around 2:00 p.m. east of Lubbock. East Texas weather will remain partly cloudy, warm and humid through the Memorial Day weekend. A cold front will drift across the area from the northeast Friday, and it will serve as a boundary along which showers and thunderstorms can develop.

There will be a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday and a 20% chance Saturday. High temperatures will range from the mid to high 80s with lows in the high 60s through Monday. Winds will be east to southeast 5 to 10 mph. There will be another chance of showers and thunderstorms during the middle of next week.
