Tyler man turns passion for Crossfit into a career

TYLER (KYTX) -  A lot has happened in 3 1/2 years for Ryan Younger.  He graduated from college with a degree in business administration and got his Level 1 Crossfit certification.  But, his passion for Crossfit won out leading him to a new and unexpected career.

"At that time I was more excited about getting that Level 1 Crossfit cert than I was in getting my bachelor's degree," says Ryan Younger.  A warehouse is Ryan Younger's office now, Rose City Crossfit.

"Pretty much everyone will remember their first Crossfit workout. That felt like death, but it was also one of the best feelings in the world because I could really tell that I had gotten a workout and was done for the day and that's when it all started," says Younger.

After a short time training people from home, Ryan opened his own Crossfit gym, transforming this warehouse into a training facility.  Ryan doesn't just put a lot of energy into his Crossfit workouts, he also put a lot of elbow grease into this gym, building their paralettes himself and their Crossfit boxes from scratch.

The road to get here took Ryan through some wake-up calls.  He was diagnosed with high cholesterol, a fatty liver and hypertension.  "A lot of people don't realize that whenever you are overweight that it is not just fat on the outside, but that your organs can hold fat as well," says Younger.

By adopting a Paleo style diet, in addition to his Crossfit workouts, Ryan was able to drop his cholesterol by 100 points and lose a few pant sizes.  "I was probably a 38 at one time and I am down a 32 or a 30," says Younger.

Ryan's wife, Andrea, also teaches classes now.  Together they've grown from 6 athletes to 50.
To do this and see the changes that I have been able to see in other people, it is just something that makes me feel good.  It gives me goose bumps," says Younger.

Ryan's finally fulfilling his dream of helping people in the Rose City find Fit City Success.

By definition, Crossfit is a high intensity workout, but Ryan says it can be scaled to fit anyone and not to be afraid to just try Crossfit like he did.
