Health Alert: New health care law saves money

Posted: Updated:

(CBS) - The new federal health care reform law has saved young adults millions of dollars in medical bills.

A new study in the New England Journal of Medicine says in the first year that the Affordable Care Act went into effect, young adults who are now allowed to stay on their parents insurance saved nearly $147 million in emergency room bills.

Without the new law, young adults and their families would have had to pay that amount, or hospitals would have had to write it off.

(CBS) - Children who take Ritalin, and Adderall to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are NOT at greater risk of using alcohol, marijuana, and other illegal drugs.

That's according to psychologists at UCLA who analyzed 15 long-term studies that followed more than 2,500 children with ADHD.

(CBS) - Researchers in Norway say just 12 minutes of exercise per week can significantly improve fitness in men.

They found that only four minutes of high-intensity training - three times per week makes a big difference for men who usually don't exercise.

Men who do exercise require more than 12 minutes per week.
