TYLER (KYTX) - Joshua McGill was a young man who was looking forward to his future.

The 21-year-old had just started a new position at his job before he was shot in the back in the parking lot at the Kensington Place apartments Monday night.

"He was really just a joy to be around, he had a great smile and a great personality," said Jocqulyn Young.

His older sister, Jocqulyn Young, is a popular radio host known as "Baby J" by many East Texas radio listeners.

She was in shock when she learned her younger brother had died.

"It's painful, it's tough, there's a mix of emotion with everyone who loved Joshua and knew Joshua. It's anger, it's hurt, it's confusion, at times it's a little bit of rage," explained Young.

Joshua's family nor Tyler police know who was responsible for the pulling the trigger.

Investigators do know the person used a shot gun.

"They're trying to sort out the details of exactly what did happen, so things are sketchy right now. We really don't want to put anything out there and unless we know for sure what did happen," said Officer Don Martin.

According to Tyler police reports, the Kensington Place apartment complex has long history of crime, from aggravated assault to burglary.

"There's cops in and out of here all the time," said Matthew Huckabee.

Matthew Huckabee's sister tried to perform CPR on Joshua Monday night. He thinks the apartment management should do more to prevent this from happening again.

"More security, maybe a gated fence," said Huckabee.

As for Joshua's family, they just want answers as they prepare to lay him to rest.

"He had a lot of friends and a lot of people love him, a lot of people are going to miss him, including myself and my family," added Young.
