Military couple ties knot, honored for service to America

MURCHISON (KYTX) - An east Texas military couple's bond got a lot closer Sunday when they tied the knot. Following their ceremony, the "Welcome Home Soldiers" organization surprised them with a special flag ceremony.

Sealed with a kiss, it was official for two Van High grads turned soldiers.

"I took leave pretty much the day after I landed from Afghanistan...I need to go home...I'm trying to get married," said groom James LeMondes.

He and his wife Charlott took leave from their respective branches of service for their wedding.

Mr. LeMondes lives on an army base in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

"I'm in the 101st up at fort Campbell," he said.

Mrs. LeMondes set up post nine hours away.

"In Florida Tyndall air force base in panama," she said.

However, for their special day they were able to be together and be honored for their service to our county.

"I didn't even know these guys were gonna be here," said Mr. LeMondes.

The couple was all smiles as they strolled down the flag draped path. Smiles greeted them with cheers and handshakes filled with appreciation.
It all came as a shock to the newlyweds.

"More like grateful knowing that people do care that we sacrifice certain things so that other people can have the freedom to do what ever they want," said Mrs. LeMondes.

Mr. LeMondes said, "It's always nice to see these groups come together umm they always come to support the troops."

They look forward to their lives together and hope one day they'll be able to welcome other service men and women back home.

The groom will head back to his base Monday, the bride will spend one more week in east Texas before she has to return to her post.
