Entertainment News: Simon Cowell gets in a messy situation

Posted: Updated:

(CNN) - Simon Cowell is cleaning a little egg off his face.  The music and television producer got egged during the live finale of "Britain's Got Talent."  While contestants were singing, a woman jumped on stage and started pelting eggs at Cowell and the other judges.  EW.com reports the woman was a member of the orchestra.  She was removed from the stage by security.  During the applause, Cowell was seen removing his jacket.  After the incident, he tweeted: "I really don't like eggs."

The Broadway musical, Kinky Boots, wins big at the Tony awards.  Kinky Boots took home the trophy for best musical at last night's awards show.  Cyndi Lauper won a Tony for writing the 15 song score to Kinky Boots.  One of the biggest ovations of the night went to 88 year old Cicely Tyson.  She won best actress in a play for The Trip to Bountiful.  Pippin won best revival musical, while Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike won best play.

Movie-goers were in the mood for a good fright this weekend and they flocked to The Purge.  The new release topped the box office with $36.4-million dollars in ticket sales.  Fast and Furious 6 is losing a little momentum, slipping to number two with just under $20-million dollars.  Rounding out the top three, thriller Now You See Me took in $19.5 million dollars.
