What your teen needs to know to land that summer gig

LONGVIEW/GREGG COUNTY (KYTX) - Now that students are out of school for summer break, many teens are looking for that summer job.

The Workforce Solutions of East Texas say that your average teen summer job like retail, restaurants and fast food are being taken by more mature and experience workers, working to make ends meet.

So when teens fill out that application or show up for an interview, they've defiantly got to stand out.

"It's really tough especially if you're 16 because people think you're irresponsible or something and you wont show up," 16-year-old Makai Brown said.

17-year-old Tanner Thompson works at Hurwits clothing store as a sales associate. He says he's got it all figured out.

"It's really all about being responsible and mature about your job," Thompson said.

The youth director at the Workforce Solutions in Longview says the biggest mistake teens make are misspellings on their job applications or not going in-depth about their previous job experiences and that alone could get their application thrown in the rejection pile.
