House explosion injures three in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX (KTRK) --Three people are in the hospital after an explosion at a home in Dobbin, in a remote part of Montgomery County.

Investigators say the explosion rocked the tiny town of Dobbin, located halfway between Conroe and Navasota, at about 8am. The blast could be heard as far away as Lake Conroe and Willis. The home has been leveled, scattering debris across an area approximately the size of a football field.

The first person to arrive on scene was a Consolidated Communications employee working in a building across the street. He and a DPS Trooper were joined by area residents and passersby who assisted in rescuing the home' s badly injured occupants.

Officials say all three occupants suffered critical burns and trauma. They include an eight-month-old baby, his 58-year-old grandmother and a 65-year-old aunt.

As firefighters arrived, they found that the house had been totally destroyed by the explosion, with parts of the home still burning. The DPS Trooper was treating the infant and others were assisting the grandmother and aunt. Both women were flown by Life Flight to Hermann Hospital in Houston with life threatening injuries and burns. The infant was flown by PHI Air Medical Helicopter to UTMB Galveston, also suffering from critical burns and injuries.

At this time, investigators suspect the explosion resulted from a build up of flammable gases in or around the home, but the exact cause of the explosion has not been determined at this time. An investigation is ongoing.

Authorities say the injured are all well known members of the local community, and their family has asked their names not be released at this time, and that the community continue to pray for those affected by this tragedy.
